Why not Cotton for Hiking?

Cotton is not recommended for hiking because it retains moisture and takes a long time to dry. When cotton gets wet, it loses its insulating properties and can make you feel cold, uncomfortable, and at risk of hypothermia in cold weather.

Cotton also absorbs sweat and moisture from your body, which can lead to chafing and blisters, especially if you are wearing cotton socks or underwear. In addition, cotton does not provide adequate protection from the sun, and it can easily tear and wear out in rugged terrain.

For hiking, it is better to wear moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and wool, which can keep you dry, comfortable, and warm. These materials are also more durable, breathable, and offer better UV protection. Additionally, wearing layers of moisture-wicking clothing can help regulate your body temperature and keep you comfortable during the changing weather conditions
