Welcome

Hello, Bob Nutting known as "Papa" a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, I have a passion for the great outdoors and I am determined to fulfill my dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT) in March 2024.

I have always been drawn to the beauty and challenge of long-distance hiking, and the AT is one of the most famous trails in the world. This journey will be a test of both physical and mental endurance, and I am eager to embark on this adventure.

To prepare for my thru-hike, I have created this site as a platform to document my research and preparations. I plan to use this site to track my progress and share my experiences with others who may be interested in this journey. As I continue my preparations, I will expand the site with more information and resources to help me succeed.

I am determined to make this dream a reality and I am excited to see what the future holds. This site will be my source of inspiration and motivation as I embark on this epic journey.

About Me

In the 1970s, my father often took me hiking in New Hampshire's White Mountains, where we slept in the rustic wilderness and developed a love for the outdoors. As a teenager, I lost interest in hiking and camping due to other interests like sports. However, now that I am a grandfather and my kids are grown, I have rekindled my passion for the outdoors. For the past ten years, I have made it a tradition to hike Mount Washington every Father's Day weekend and camp at the Dolly Copp Campground near Pinkham Notch in Washington, NH. I involve my kids and some of their friends in these hikes as well. My father introduced me to the Appalachian Trail and showed me his old AMC books, sparking my interest in the trail's history. Over the past five years, that interest has grown into a true passion. Sadly, my father has passed away, and to honor him, I have decided to carry his ashes and scatter them in all 14 states along the Appalachian Trail.
